To Gordon Biersch, with Love

Roses are red, violets are blue … Nothing says, “I love you,” like dinner for two and a brew!

We know that Cupid’s handiwork will be witnessed at many of the restaurants here at The Market Common – and Gordon Biersch, on the corner of Howard and Nevers streets, is one of them you’ll want to reserve a table for two at on Valentine’s Day weekend.

I know that love is in the air at Gordon Biersch because I first met my husband here on a blind “double” date half a dozen years ago (our booth is the first one on the right at the bar). But there are myriad other reasons you’ll fall in love with this sweet spot.

Food You’ll Want to Put Your Hands On

Fresh ingredients and original recipes that roam the world’s cuisines are the eye candy for all the senses. Brewery Starters like the Southwest Egg Rolls, for instance, add a little zip to each bite. And you’ll be licking your fingers after an order of the Ahi Tuna Nachos piled on top of crispy wonton chips.

The regular menu also features melt-in-your mouth steak and chicken entrees, pasta, flatbreads, tacos and burgers. February 14-17, Gordon Biersch will be offering a special Valentine’s Day menu to “Eat & Drink with Your Heart,” featuring sumptuous calamari, a choice of the Surf & Turf Filet or a Lemon Caper Mahi Mahi entrée, and Black Forest Chocolate Cake for dessert. For cocktails, shake things up with a Love Potion Martini.

Add Some Chemistry

Along with a full menu of wine selections and lovely libations, Gordon Biersch boasts a rare find for many restaurants: a lineup of hand-crafted beers brewed onsite. Choose one that’s the perfect match for you out of nine options, from the lighter Golden Export to the dark and roasted Schwarzbier, German for “black beer.”

Hey, Good Lookin’!

Sure, there’s the good food and drinks, but Gordon Biersch is the whole package – and by that, I mean their ambiance is one you’ll want to cozy up to. It’s brew pub meets metro bistro, with soft lighting and several dining areas to choose from at high-tops in the bar area, the main dining room closer to the open kitchen or outside on warmer evenings on their charming front porch that faces the front sidewalk.

“Honestly, we’re gearing away from being considered a sports bar atmosphere, even though many do because of our TVs,” says GM Jessie Leeson. “Now, we make sure no volume is turned up on the TVs, which creates a better environment, and we crank up the dinner music.”

Leeson also says what makes Gordon Biersch attractive to clientele is that it’s a place that’s welcoming to all ages, from young and single to families to older couples and more in between.

Looking Ahead

Leeson recommends that interested couples call ahead to reserve a table for their Valentine’s Day weekend special: 843.849.0249.

And, for their next special event, Gordon Biersch will be hosting a tapping party in April for the maibock brew. Check Facebook for updates on time and dates!
